AudioCubes work with Max/MSP 5

Cycling ‘74 recently announced Max/MSP 5, a new version of its well-known creative development environment Max/MSP. Read the full story here:  http://www.cycling74.com/story/2008/4/23/183612/870

As you probably already know, AudioCubes comes with an open source development kit consisting of the hardware communication external for Max/MSP and a collection of Max/MSP patches for making your own applications for AudioCubes. You can download all software from this page and check it out, even if you don’t have AudioCubes : http://www.percussa.com/isupport.php

Today we tested the patches and external with Max/MSP 5 and all patches and external seem to work fine. If you encounter any problems feel free to drop us a message in the forum at http://forum.percussa.com/ and we’ll look into it.

Happy patching!

We put together a mini audiocube configuration panel for building audio applications easily with the cubes and Max/MSP. This will also let us develop some interesting standalone audio applications in the very near future.

Here is the link to the zip file of the patches folder. You can copy it over the patches folder included with the 052008 release. For those who can’t wait to dive in: the patches are called CubeWidget*. The one you should include in your patches is CubeWidgetPanel.pat. The patches are cross-platform, of course.

Alternatively you can use the patch submitted by Peter Nyboer from Livid Instruments. You can find it in the forum here: http://forum.percussa.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=28

As an example, we created some patches to send Open Sound Control (OSC) messages to Future Audio Workshop’s  Circle synth using the AudioCubes. Inside the patches folder, look for CubeWidgetPanelToCircle.pat.

AudioCubes controls FAW Circle via OSC

We also did a Quartz Composer example to send colour info over Open Sound Control (OSC) from Quartz to the AudioCubes’ RGB LED. Inside the patches folder, look for QuartzToCubeWidgetPanel.pat.

The updated patches will be included in the next software release of course. Meanwhile you can use the above links. If you have some questions or problems getting it running join the forum at http://forum.percussa.com/ - we will be delighted to help you.

The MIDIBridge software got an update today fixing a few minor bugs and adding support for all setup parameters to be stored and recalled using the preset system. You can read more about the update and download it here: http://forum.percussa.com/viewtopic.php?t=40.

The updated Max/MSP patches for MIDIBridge will be available in the next software release package for AudioCubes. As you probably already know, all host software for AudioCubes is freely available and open source, and built in Cycling 74’s Max/MSP software. So you can customize it easily to your own needs. Do you need OSC or some other protocol instead of MIDI communication? If it’s available in Max/MSP you can easily use it with AudioCubes and the freely available Max/MSP patches.

We have been very busy here the past months preparing a software update for our AudioCube users. This update keeps into account a lot of the feedback and feature requests we received since the introduction of the AudioCubes at Winter NAMM 2007 in Anaheim. We will be releasing the update as a FREE download by the end of this month.
